3 weeks ago today, Michael and I welcomed our baby boy, Charles, into the world! He was 7 lbs, 19.5 inches, with a full head of golden hair, and perfect in every way!
I know it has been quite a while since I’ve been here, and I do apologize for that, but mom life is demanding and it definitely takes a few weeks to get acclimated to.
I had zero experience with babies prior to becoming a mom. I’ve never babysat infants, changed diapers, or even fed/burped a baby before Charles came along. I’ve always heard mothers say that it is a full-time job and shrugged at the idea thinking all they do is eat and sleep right?
While it is true that newborns just eat and sleep most of the day, what no one tells you is they eat roughly every 2 hours. So by the time you’re done with one feeding, you have about an hour before baby is hungry again. That goes for nighttime too.
It is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, but this mama is tired and hoping to get a few longer stretches of nighttime sleep soon. Luckily for me, Michael is incredibly involved and helpful. He always offers to help when he can tell I’m sleepy and he gets bottles prepared in advance so I won’t have to in the middle of the night. Charlie has recently moved up to feeding every 3-4 hours as well which is amazing at night. Lets hope we continue the progress! I’m currently reading Moms on Call and beginning to implement their schedule and bedtime cues, but I would love any tips from moms who have great newborn schedules.
